Bangladesh Society of Critical Care Medicine honored three legendary as "Lifetime Achievement Award"BSCCM announced this award on the occasion of Criticon Bangladesh 2019 held on 28-31 March.
Late Prof. Shahjahan Nurus Samad Chowdhury
This legendary born in a reputed family of Sylhet on 25th March’1937. He did his initial education from Sylhet and then completed his medical studies from in 1962. Afterwards he went for higher education in London where he completed DA in 1966. He had also received FCPS and FICS.
He started his career in 1962 as House Of_cer in the surgical unit of Chittagong medical college later he went to for further studies and there he worked in Gartloch Hospital, Glasgow as Junior House Of_cer followed by clinical attachment in Anaesthesiology in Glasgow Royal In_rmary in the year of 1968. Then he Returned to Bangladesh and acted as the Assistant professor in Anesthesiology in Sylhet Osmani Medical and as Professor in Chittagong Medical college and successively.
Professor Samad acted as examiner of DA, MD and FCPS examinations held in Bangladesh and also as an External Examiner in DA in Tri-Bubhan University, Nepal. He presented almost 33 papers in local conferences and 6 papers in International Conferences. He has in many International Conferences as well. He was the Co-Chairman in Symposium on Management of Pain, AACA, Seoul1990. President 1st SACA Congress, Dhaka, 1993.
Professor Samad acted as the Vice President of Students Union Chittagong Medical College in 1961-62, President BSA in 1984. He also acted as the president of doctor’s forum DMCH. He held the position of DEAN in faculty of medicine DU (1991-1993 He was member of Academic Council DU. He was the founder member of Asian & of Regional (AORSA) Elected Member, Board of Directors, AORSA, President South Asian Confederation of Anaesthesiologists (SACA).
Professor Samad has contributed in organizing the Anaesthesiology in structured form by starting the _rst DA Course Sylhet Medical College in 1975, the _rst outside IPGM&R. He has started the FCPS course in Anaesthesiology in BCPS in 1978. He also started the _rst Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Bangladesh within the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in 1984. He has also started the _rst Piped Medical Gas & Vacuum (PMGV) system in Dhaka Medical College Hospitalthe _rst of its kind in Bangladesh in 1985.
Prof. Mesbahuddin Iqbal
Kazi Mesbahuddin Iqbal completed his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in January 1969, then Worked in UK from 1972 to 1981. During the period following Academic quali_cations were achieved. DA (UK) FFARCSi (Ireland), FRCA (UK) and Associate Professor In IPGMR in January 1982. Became Professor and Head of the department of , Intensive care Medicine in 1989. In 1999, IPGMR was converted to BSMMU and the department was renamed as Department of , Analgesia and Intensive care Medicine and Prof Iqbal had been its Chairman until retirement. He was First Treasurer and later Pro VC of the university in addition to his primary responsibilities. After retired in August 2005 from the university. In his had been active in training, teaching and research activities.
Prof. M Khalilur Rahman
Dr M Khalilur Rahman completed his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1969, MCPS from BCPS in 1976, DA from U K in 1978, FFARCS from Ireland in 1978 Completed training from U K for 3 years, from Japan for 6 months. He is working as Assoc & Prof of Anesthesiology in Medical College Hospitals since 24 years. He has 15 Scientific Publications in different medical journals. He had an attachment with Critical Care from 1980 to 1989 in National institute of cardiovascular diseases to manage Post Cardiac patients. He was of ICU in Dhaka Medical College from 1995 to 2003. Now he is the Honorary Senior Consultant of Anesthesia, Surgical ICU and Pain Medicine BIRDEM General Hospital.
