Corona virus is of large family viruses. It affects both human and animal. Now a days the largest outbreak of this virus has started since last month of 2019. About COVID-19- This virus is the novel virus of Corona family was first detected at Wuhan state in China which is one of the largest market of sea food and live animal.
COVID 19 is suspected to have two different strains. One of it is more aggressive type that was more prevalent at Wuhan China in late last year. Frequency of which is decreasing worldwide replacing by less aggressive strain. Now 70% strain is of aggressive type.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus WHO's director general said that COVID -19 does not transmit or pass on as efficiently as Flu. He also said that the data they have on virus does not support its aggressive nature like Flu. With the Flu, people who are infected but not sick yet are the major drivers to transmit, where COVID 19 cases are not like that but causes more severe illness than Flu. However people around the world have built immunity against Flu strains where COVID 19 is a new virus and will cause more severe diseases he said.
How does COVID -19 spreads ?
WHO says, how COVID19 spreads is similar to the flu. When a person with this virus coughs or sneezes and exhales then droplets of infected fluid land on nearby surfaces like table, chair, bed, telephone, desk, wall etc. Then it spreads by hand or touch from human to human. After that touching face, nose or eyes will cause infections to another person. Only barrier is hygiene and maintaining respiratory etiquette. Most caution should be maintained for the most vulnerable persons of society like elderly persons, pregnant woman, child, persons with least immunity namely DM, persons having chronic diseases like CKD, COPD, CCF etc.
How could we recognise the case ?
1. Having sign symptoms similar to Flu like fever, cough, malaise, prostration, anorexia, rhinorrhoea, respiratory difficulties and breathlessness in more severe cases. 2. Persons having travel history to pandemic region Ex: China, Singapur, Italy, South Korea, Iran. 3. Persons with high suspicions
What actions should we need to take ?
WHO demonstrates some major actions amongst them travel restriction and hand hygiene are very important.
